Local Lore

Maybe the craftsman of the old sign of children’s legend was Zedrow’s father-in-law, Woodridge resident Charlie Miller, who in lore never quite believed a county promise in the 1950s not to chop down the tree to make path for a four- lane highway.

“When the ax men came to tear down that tree, he met them with a 12-gauge shotgun. He said, ‘That’s my tree. Nobody takes it down,’ according to the legend as remembered by Kuhn.”
