Riverlands Brewing Creates the Hobson Oak Amber Lager

Naperville Outdoor Alliance would like to toast Riverlands Brewing for collaborating on the Hobson Oak Amber Lager, a special beer created using staves from the 250-year-old Hobson Oak tree as one of the main ingredients.
The work of Naperville Outdoor Alliance, a charitable tax-exempt 501(c)3 organization, includes support for the Riding for Focus bicycle program at Naperville North High School, and Naperville Park District Fee Assistance Program giving residents experiencing financial hardships the opportunity to enjoy recreation programs.
The Hobson Oak Amber Lager is available on draft at Riverlands Brewing (1860 Dean St Unit A, St. Charles, IL 60174). Riverlands has 16oz 4-packs for sale as well. You can also find the beer at the Naperville Binny’s and several downtown Naperville restaurants, including at Miskatonic Craft Kitchen (47 E Chicago Ave #120, Naperville, IL 60540).
According to Eric Bramwell of Riverlands Brewing, “We were super excited to get the chance to work on this project. In this particular instance, what we did was we took a Czech Amber Lager base beer, because we thought that would work really nicely with the Oak profile … and took three big slabs of the Hobson Oak tree and sawed them down into small staves – that we then put into an infusion tank that we often use for some of our big-flavored imperial stouts. We then let the beer sit on the oak in this separate tank for a couple weeks and then blended it back in with the rest of the batch of beer. I thought it gave a nice subtle drying oak tannin element to this beer that wouldn’t normally be there in an amber lager that I thought it complimented the base beer really well.”
